A New Modeling Approach for Low-Carbon District Energy System Planning

Designing district-scale energy systems with renewable sources is still a challenge, as it involves modeling of multiple loads and many options to combine system components. In the current study, two different scenarios for district in Montreal/Canada are compared choose most cost-effective energy-efficient scenario studied area. first scenario, decentral comprised ground-source heat pumps provides heating cooling each building, while, second central pump designed. Firstly, demand calculated completely automated process using an Automatic Urban Building Energy Modeling System approach (AUBEM). Then, Integrated Simulation Environment Language (INSEL) used prepare model system. The proposed capacity number required (HP), photovoltaic (PV) panels, AC electricity generation potential PV. After designing systems, piping system, losses, temperature distribution centralized MATLAB code. Finally, assessed economically Levelized Cost (LCOE) method. results show that scenario’s total HP consumption 17% lower than requires less scenario. LCOE both varies from 0.04 0.07 CAD/kWh, which cheaper cost Quebec (0.08 CAD/kWh). A comparison between shows cost-beneficial all buildings and, after applying discounts, this decreases CAD/kWh.
